Pixel Nights In Second Life

Week 2 of Infused Canvas Video Competition Launched!

Congratulations to last weeks winner Mentone Sands who correctly guessed the video to be of the exciting adult role-playing sim ‘Doomed Ship’. He’s bagged himself L$1000!

Below is a description of the sim -

Doomed Ship is a sci-fi/horror themed adult role play area, which first opened up to the public August 14th, 2007. The emphasis is on role-play, with all efforts directed towards creating a tense, moody environment and bringing it to life through sounds, animation, and the role-players themselves.

Nastrand Corp. ******************************************
The Nastrand Corporation is the largest corporate entity in the Sol sector, controlling a
significant portion of the planet Mars, as well as the moons Deimos and Phobos entirely, outside
the legal jurisdiction of the UCE and other colonial governments.

Originally focused on planetary and deep space mining, the turmoil of the expansion period forced
the corporation to place significant emphasis on military and defense research and production.

As mankind pushes further into the unknown depths of space, Nastrand Corporation has begun making
leaps in transportation far beyond any other government or corporation in known territories.

History ******************************************

The NCS Persephone was launched from Nastrand Corporation’s orbital facility around Phobos. The official statements were that she was a heavy freight transport whose reactor exploded  just outside of the solar system. All hands lost.

This report was somewhat untrue. The ship was indeed designed with deep space transport in mind,
however as the distances between the UEC and its colonies increased, so to did the time it took to
travel between them. Travel could take years between one colony and the next. The Persephone was
Nastrand’s attempt to take over space travel completely with a new kind of engine capable of faster
than light travel.

The ship was designed around brand new technology, a “gravity drive” capable of opening a
temporary wormhole, allowing the ship to travel vast distances in an instant.

However, the ship disappeared the first time the drive was used.
Now  *****************************************

Every so often, a ship is alerted to a nearby distress signal. The NCS Persephone. Nastrand has taken a keen interest in the recovering of the ship, if it indeed still exists, and through unofficial channels has offered a sizeable reward.

However, no one who has gone searching for the ship has succeeded. Some claim to have seen it, or even been aboard. The stories they tell are beyond belief, and most have been proven false.

Many ships have disappeared either searching for the ship, or after sending out word that they were investigating a distress signal.

**************************************************
Those who stumble upon the ship soon discover that it is an anomoly akin to stories of the Bermuda Triangle on Earth. Those crews awakened by their ships computers upon discovery of the vessle soon
find they are unable to discern their location, and cannot know if their own communications are
being recieved.

Some such crews wander the corridors of the ship for untold lengths of time and never see another living being. Others find themselves meeting up with others who have come across the ship. Sometimes claiming to have just arrived themselves, though believing the year to be much earlier, or later.

Others may find members of the crew, either horrified and desperate to escape, or completely oblivious that anything is out of the ordinary. Sometimes not responding at all.

Still others find other, inhuman, creatures lurking in the dark corridors of the seemingly derelict vessel.

One thing soon becomes clear to those poor souls who find themselves lost abourd the deranged ship. She has gone beyond the bounds of our universe, and she has not come back alone.

UPDATE FROM TWISTED!

Hey everyone :)

It’s been a while since I last blogged here so I thought I’d grace you all with my presence tonight before heading to bed!

Updates on the things we’ve got up to recently..

The launch of ‘Fragments’ was a great success with a great turnout to the premiere. Some very creative and constructive input was given on how to develop the next set of stories in the series.

We have been doing a little commercial work lately also, just finished up something for ‘Weapon X’ by Xero Escape. It’s a fantasy weapon store in SL. The advert was fun to make and can be found here -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDfvekslz9w

And finally to Infused Canvas business! We have decided to launch a weekly video competition where we show a few snippets from somewhere in Second Life and you have to guess where it is and win lots of funky prizes. It’ll be a weekly thing and as time progresses, if it’s popular, it’ll evolve into more competitions like that. To watch the video, go to this link -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXpx8X2-NA8 and find the slurl there to drop a notecard with your answer and your SL name into the mailbox at the Cafe. Pretty simple really.

Infused Canvas also has a lot of space to offer for creative sort of people who want space to stick things up. If you have an art installation.. or any other ideas, do give us a shout. We are working on developing a little space in the near future for insidedesi.com, a UK based Asian lifestyle magazine who approached us a few months ago. They have a group of great writers and the website is one worth taking a peek at.

We are actively looking for writers to submit work into our gallery and are hoping to get some great live entertainment soon before I leave for my small holiday. Please do get in touch. IM myself (Twisted Surface), Sarasvati Kohime or Nathalia Parisi for info about anything.

Keep it real and speak to you soon!

Roleplay Ping Pong- Mia & Vincent

I play what I call roleplay ping pong with a few friends who I do not see online often. We send each other snippets to continue the roleplay but recently I was sent a story called ‘Forgetful Yasmeen’ so I decided to write a short story in return, here is the beginning…

Mia & Vincent: The Party

It was 3.47am, a cold Saturday morning and relatively early in terms of being intoxicated. Yasmeen began to stir as Johnny Cash’s ‘a boy named sue’ made her smile in her sleep. Her head felt like the earth must have felt during world war two, every movement in pitch bombing the nerves in her brain. She groaned a little as she moved her stiff neck and sleepily looked across at the familiar dashboard. ‘Jack?’ she mumbled, her head turning to the empty driver’s seat. She flicked the windscreen wipers on and leaned forward to look out of the window. Out ahead she could see cars lined up to be fed, the bright lights of the petrol station reminded her of Soho in London. Party goers would line up outside Chinese buffet restaurants at 4.00am in hope that a piece of duck would cure their hangovers. Here party goers seemed to congregate in 24hr food stores to feast on Pringles and dips. Yasmeen noticed Scooby Doo flirting with Britney behind a Chevrolet Malibu and laughed to herself. Only a few hours ago at house party she had fragmented recollection of how Scooby Doo had asked her to do some doggy paddling in the neighbour’s pool. Somehow she had managed to decline. Not seeing Jack in sight her fingers searched the dashboard for her mobile phone, after a few minutes she began to assume she had lost it.

Brooklyniswatching: Update on our lurrve table

Infused Canvas left a picnic table with kissballs and some love quotes as food for thought for Brooklyn. Although we haven’t had any discussion on our love table we have been featured on their flickr and best of all people have been leaving extras on and around the table.

www.brooklyinwatching.com

We sent Saras to go check on her table and she found the following objects had been added:

-a molecular stick and some other molecular thingy
-’hide my face’ pieces of a face on the table (may also explain why the avatar in the pic above was part invisible)
-a candy stickman
-a plant
-a picture behind the picnic table
-colourful clouds beside it
-a pink flamingo

Visit the lurrve table http://slurl.com/secondlife/Popcha/92/138/22

We will be adding their flickr RSS to 1001nights

Beyond Imagination

Vella: that was just THE best thing i have done in SL …. sO clever and so much fun … right up to the end.. truly … beyond imagination lives up to its name

This weekend I have managed to find a few hidden gems for Infused Canvas members to explore and ‘Beyond Imagination’ is by far one of my favourites. This is an ongoing game within the social world in which you need to follow the clues and solve the puzzles. I never did get the chance to try CSI and I was too late to join ‘I am Legend’ so I did a virtual cartwheel when I stumbled on this. With over 400 members it is proving to be quite a hit!

What is Beyond Imagination?

“With their hit game, the Zodiac Killer, Beyond Imagination has taken a serious step forward in the development of games for Second Life. Leveraging the development capability and social interaction of Second Life, Beyond Imagination seeks to create games that are beyond anything currently out there.

Encompassing a talented staff of designers, writers, builders and scripters, Beyond Imagination is creating a premier line of games based around the mysteries within the Zodiac Killer, as well as working on developing fun mini games.  All games are high quality and innovative, yet maintain a huge fun-factor for players.

The goal for Beyond Imagination is to create fantasies that challenge people’s imagination…
To make their brain tick, to lure them into a world where they unravel a mystery, drive the players to the edge of frustration and give a rewarding feeling when they succeed.”

The current chapter is called ‘Within’ and the new chapter will start in two weeks. When you land you’ll be in the Beyond Imagination headquarters, on the shelves you will find information about the last chapters/games and when you’re ready to get stuck in you should follow the sign into the first room. There you will find locations for the test rooms, in these rooms you will have limited time to solve the puzzle. The first room itself is well designed and the textures give that lara croft study feel which made me feel like I was fifteen again. Another thing to note is that the gamers exploring Beyond Imagination are really friendly so it’s a nice way to meet people too!

So all in all…hurrah for Beyond Imagination!

3. Natespace

Often people want to create installations and displays but are not sure where to start. I visited Natespace with a friend who likes to build, isn’t too arty but likes maths. After the visit he started working on his own display. So if the concept of math in art interests you - go take a peek.
A comprehensive view of the artists work can be found at www.natespace.com

Lose yourself in 3088

GRAND OPENING AT 12:00 SLT TODAY

Some of you may remember Sahar Irata- lord knows the girl is googled a lot :) Anyhow after the major changes at 1001nights Sahar vowed to create a new home for the roleplayers and now the day has arrived. It is not Arabian themed but rather is a futuristic roleplay. There are many factions to choose from, which means you have even more choice in the type of character you want to take on.

//A futuristic sci-fi thriller which stretches the imagination. Super Corperations, Rebellions, Religious Zealots, Underground Crime rings - the powers of the world collide the city of Alpha 47-122 and struggle for dominance. What will you be?

Post 1001 many 1001ers roamed other places such as Egypt, Thraldom, Gor but rest assured many will gravitate towards 3088 because those friendships formed in 1001 are still strong.

So if you are looking to roleplay amongst a group of fun unique roleplayers who also know how to kick virtual ass in combat then get yourself down to the SIM opening.

The environment was fun in 1001 and I have no doubt that it will be even more enjoyable in 3088.

Happy roleplaying!

Virtual Lessons: A blog is for life not just for Christmas

This is probably one of the best lectures I have been to in Second Life. Some people amaze me in Second Life and Jilly Kidd is one of them. She has managed to plan and consistently run interesting events. Today at work I started on my professional blog, I was thinking to myself ‘jeeze there are so many technology blogs out there-will anyone ever see my scribbles?’ Then I received a group notice from Jilly advertising an event on how to do successful blogging. So thank you Jilly!

Ted Gross (Kitviel Silberberg in SL) gave a very energetic voice lecture on his experience of blogging. He discussed real life examples from his blogs, content, publication rights, Twitter, the importance of becoming viral, interacting with other bloggers, sticking to the niche and even unicorns! Ted has a techy background and has also created applications on Facebook (Neveralone and Angel & Demons). Hopefully he should be lecturing on a weekly basis. I absolutely detest coding but listening to his lecture encouraged me to get out my textbook and get on with it! It also gave me the motivation to write, write and write!

Second Life can seem a bit strange for those who have not tried it before and I admit there are some ODD things there. However odd things exist in real life too, it does not prevent us from weeding it out and focusing on the good stuff. So get into Second Life and join us at some of these events!

Some of Ted’s blogs…enjoy :) :
